The festivities will be here (DK's) on the 16th. Be there or get moths in your wool!!!! :) :) :)
I hope ewe all enjoyed your Thanksgiving with friends and family! I still haven't had my fill of turkey, though I am planning on having some turkey pie this week for dinner.
It looks like December 9th is the next scheduled meeting time. I will host at my house and sure hope you all can come. I'm excited about December and all the festivities this time of year. We put our Christmas tree up today (and Tim put out his Menorah). I'm knitting non-stop getting things made. Why oh why don't I do this in the summer!!

Helpful!
Hello Loopy Ewes! I just thought I'd drop a line and let you know about two helpful things that I came across this past weekend. After my red couch swallowed up my last available yarn needle, I remembered that I had seen a pattern for a Knitting Doo-dad Holder way back when. I found the pattern and got busy knitting. The holder is straight garter stitch that goes fairly quickly, and putting it together is pretty clever. The result? Little pockets that hold snug any yarn, cable or knitting needle that you need to have on hand. It will even hold your scissors in the center. Now I'm a huge fan of knitting in front of the TV at night, so this turned out to be a huge life saver for me. I thought I'd pass it along in case you have hungry couches as well. I think this would even be a good thing on a plane ride.
The other thing I found while I was knitting the doo-dad holder was an online row counter. I loved this! You hit the space bar after every row and it keeps track of your count. It doesn't get any easier than that, in my opinion.
Well, Loopies, I hope all of your knitting projects are going swimmingly. Don't miss the friendly post by our fellow LE, Judi, below this one.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hi there Loopy Ladies! I am so sorry I didn't come last week, I really wanted to be there. I hear that we are going to bi-weekly meetings, which sounds good. I hope to be there in December, for sure.
I have been busy with crafts and sewing projects, but still find time to knit, too. I can't wait to see all the great projects you are all working on. I had my surgery in September, and have lost 43 lbs. so far. I feel good, and I gave away alot of fat clothes.
We are clearing out some stuff because we are remodeling some of our house, and I am wondering if anyone is looking for a piano? We have 2, and one has to go. Let me know if you are interested. It is 40 years old, but in excellent condition. Lynn had it tuned 2 years ago, so it might need tuning. She is asking $1200. for it, which is what an appraiser suggested.
I am going to MN, to see the grandkids on Thanksgiving. Can't wait.
Miss you all, I will be back in Dec., I promise. Love, Judi

Loopy Ewe Blues
On the off chance that anyone is still reading this blog, I thought I might propose some new meeting ideas! For whatever reason, meeting at peoples homes seems to be getting more and more difficult. For that reason, I'd like to propose meeting at a public place (I have a couple of ideas that I am currently researching..Brewster Ladies Library and Harwich Community Center!) I think we can do this for free/very inexpensively, and it could be some place central. I am looking for input and ideas, so please chime in at your earliest convenience!!

New Pet and Other Stuff
Hi Loopies! I noticed on another blog that a sheep is now an available option for a virtual pet, so I traded Loopy the Llama for Loopy the Sheep. I hope you all don't mind. He's quite affectionate! I didn't do the tidiest job installing him on the blog, so if anyone knows how to fix that, it would be great.
In other news, although I wasn't there last time, I heard that we are supposed to meet tomorrow. Unfortunately I cannot make it again, but I thought this post could serve as an RSVP post for tomorrow's meeting. So, Loopies, are you going to knitting tomorrow? Shout it out, baby.

Comfy and cozy knitting
Wednesday was such a fun night! I enjoyed the company of all of you and truly missed Judi and Ingrid!
Kari, you were so intense and involved in your work. I hope you are over the hard part! Sorry that BEAUTIFUL sock you made didn't fit your son!
Jenna, your hat is so pretty. You did wonderfully. I hope you have an easy time of it with your socks! We'll all be cheering you on.
Wendy, I'm glad you were able to join us! Some time I'd like to try two socks at once! You make it look so easy!
Terri, I love the sweater you finished. It's beautiful and comfy! I also love the yarn you are making those socks with. Good luck with that second (I mean third!) sock.
Dawn, Just how many pairs of socks have you made???? Good luck with that baby knitting. It's easy. I do it all the time!
Kathleen, did you get the yarn you need? I love that slippers pattern! I can't wait to see those!
I finished the pink sweater and started a different sweater. Before I go to far I need to swatch because it is looking so big!!!
I have a question for all of you ladies. I was thinking that if everyone was at my house last Wednesday we would have certainly had a full house, which got me thinking (no funny comment there!) Do you think we should put a cap on our numbers? I'm afraid of running out of room. Please chime in and let me know what you think?
SWAP UPDATE!!!!!
We have decided to have our swap due on July 22nd! If you have any questions just let me know!

Wednesday Recap - To Blog or Not to Blog?
It was fun to get together last night, as it always is. Yummy food all around, and the conversation ran the gamut of different topics. We did get into a bit of Loopy Ewe business during a discussion about the swap and the blog. A couple of the highlights from the meeting:
- Think to yourself, "Self, do I really want to swap or not?" It's not mandatory, and it's supposed to be fun!
- For the blog to exist, it needs posting and feedback. Do we want to support the blog in this manner or let it go?
- Kathleen is a very bad dog mommy
- Wendy wants to knit a mustache. Kari wants to graph her own. ;-)
- DL is trying not to overheat before she finishes that big blanket.
- Ingrid is a proud supporter of shih tsu polygamy ;-)
- Judi has seen some scary examples of wildlife . . . (well, you know)
- We missed you, Dawn!
Now back to the swap. Last night, the idea of knitting tawashi was brought up, and that seemed to spark some interest. There's info about it here. There has already been some feedback to that post, and I really appreciate it. We've had one request for the swap to be due after school lets out, so maybe we can tentatively schedule a due date for the end of June.
In other news, Apple and I went to the vet this morning, who said that it looks like her eye will make a full recovery. Yay!
And last, but not least, here is the recipe for the dip I made last night.
Mexican Layered Dip, Black Bean Style
1 onion, small dice
1 red pepper, small dice
3/4 cup - 1 cup frozen corn kernels
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
2 pkgs guacasalsa or guacamole
Tabasco
1 cup light sour cream
1 lime, juiced
3/4 - 1 cup shredded reduced fat sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup grape tomatoes, quartered
1 handful cilantro, chopped
Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and pepper and saute until tender. Add cumin, coriander, corn and beans and saute until the corn has thawed and the ingredients have melded. Add 2-3 drops of Tabasco sauce or to taste and season with a pinch of salt. Remove the skillet from the heat and pour the mixture into a bowl to cool. Add the juice of half the lime and half of the cilantro. Set aside. Mix remaining lime juice with sour cream and set aside. When beans have cooled, spread them in an even layer in the bottom of a shallow dish. Top with guacasalsa, spreading evenly to edges. Top with lime flavored sour cream, and spread evenly over guacasalsa. Sprinkle cheddar cheese next and top with chopped tomatoes and remaining cilantro. Serve with tortilla chips.
* I've been thinking about the watery business and that may have been due to the lime juice in the sour cream. I also thought after the fact that maybe I should have strained the sour cream to get the excess liquid out. This recipe is a work in progress I guess, but this is how I made it yesterday.
Have a nice long weekend, Loopies! Happy Knitting!

Hello Loopy Ewes! Here is the post for all of your brilliant swap ideas! Feel free to post in the comments or post right in this post! All of the ideas posted in the comments, I will list here so that we can look at them altogether. Get those creative juices flowing!
I looked up the project that I was attempting to describe the other night (in a very poor fashion, might I add!) and it is called the Knitting Doo-dads Cushion. Here's a link to the Ravelry page, and here's a link to the pattern's web page. A contender, maybe? I guess we'll have to see what all of you Loopies think!
Now, on with the brainstorming! :-)
Kathleen's recent idea: Tawashi . . . some examples I found on Ravelry:
If you have ideas out there, please post them!
P.S. In the interest of keeping things simple and fun, try to focus your brainstorming on one item that we all knit.

Wednesday Night Recap
Let's see . . . last night was fun and certainly chatty. Some of the highlights:
- 2 Loopies were working on sweaters, 4 Loopies were knitting socks and 1 Loopy was knitting lace.
- Dawn taught some of us a new word, and as a teacher duly taught all of us the proper definition. :-)
- Bella still loves her obscene dog toy.
- DL can kitchener without looking at directions or absolute quiet. (Wow!)
- We established in word and now in print that if you can't make the Loopy Ewes meeting of the week, please call or email your gracious host as soon as you know. (Loopy Ewe Etiquette!)
- Our next Loopy Swap is looming in the future. This brings me to the next segment of this post.
Loopy Ewe Springy Swap! Since we were unable to nail down an idea that everyone was on board with, I'd like to now extend the opportunity for sharing swap ideas to the blog floor. I've decided to post an area for this separately, in case some of you are just bursting with comments about the events from last night. We wouldn't want to confuse things, right? ;-)
Yummy snacks all around. I'm glad everyone liked the quinoa salad. Here's the recipe. It's sort of a throw together thing, so this is essentially what I did.
Quinoa Salad
1 cup quinoa
2 cups water
4 scallions, white and light green parts finely chopped
1 carrot, peeled and grated
1 avocado half, diced
1/2 orange pepper, diced
1 cup of fresh tomatoes, diced (I used Trader Joe's Baby Romas)
2 Tablespoons flat leaf parsley, chopped
2 Tablespoons cilantro, chopped
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add quinoa, cover pan, reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until all the water is absorbed. Let cool. Add vegetables and herbs and top with dressing, tossing to combine.
The Dressing
2 Tablespoons sherry vinegar (or any vinegar)
2 Tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 teaspoon honey
salt and pepper
Note: I actually made a double batch of the dressing for this batch of quinoa salad because I thought it flavored all of the ingredients more evenly. If you have any questions about this recipe, just let me know.
Thanks for hosting, Ingrid! It's always fun at your house. :-)
Happy Knitting, Loopy Ewes! Swap post coming soon!

Swap Update
Hello, Loopies! Hope your dishcloths are all going swimmingly! If you haven't started yet, no worries! You still have plenty of time. :-)
Dawn K mentioned the other night that she'd like to present her dishcloth a certain way. I've been thinking about this a bit, so in order to avoid quashing anyone's creative freedom, I thought it would be good to set a parameter for presentation purposes. Now this is not at all mandatory, but anyone who feels the need to present their dishcloth a certain way may do so. How about we put a $2 cap on it, so no one goes crazy. I will tell you all that all I need is a knitted dishcloth by one of my fellow Loopy Ewes to make me happy, and most of us feel the same. However, there can be something about the presentation for some, so that's why I figured it would be good to allow for some expression.
If anyone objects, feel free to let me know. The swap is in 18 days, Loopy Ewes, so happy knitting!

Knitting Night
Dear Loopy Ewes,
Well, its Tuesday afternoon and I (along with a couple of other ewes) am wondering where and when knitting might be tomorrow night. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but I am also wondering if the lack of interest in the blog is reflecting an attitude about knitting night. I have a couple of things
I want to bring up and I think it is important that EVERYONE who wants to participate weighs in...
1) A plan or schedule for the next month or two might be helpful to those of us who like to "plan"
2) Since we are having people over to our homes a system of RSVPing through the blog might be helpful as well. Of course we all understand that plans change and things come up, but as a courtesy to the hostess it would be nice to let her know!
3) Ingrid brought up meeting every other week not that long ago. I do think that making dates of every first and third Wednesday (for example) could work! Thats just my two cents!
So, I know we are all very busy in our day to day activities, but I would like to hear if anyone has feedback or anything at all to say about the future of the Loopy Ewes!
xoxo

Next Week...March 4th
Dear Loopy Ewes,
I have a special treat for next weeks Knitting Night. Instead of freezing at my house, we have been invited to Kathy Mealey's Alpaca Farm and Home for our knitting night. She has been kind enough to invite the group over and I thought this would be a great opportunity to learn about so much that she has to offer. Not only does she have alpaca, but she has sheep, goats and a workshop in which she is able to process fleece into roving (needed to spin into yarn). I look forward to sharing more about this opportunity tonight (and giving directions)!

Swap-a-licious!
Hey, Loopy Ewes! We missed a lot of you last night, but we still managed to have fun! We munched on yummy spinach dip, the salsa dip extraordinaire, and fresh fruit with an impromptu pudding/yogurt dip that was quite tasty. It was fun to get together and see everyone's knitted wares and talk about all of those naughty songs on the radio, as well as dogs, dogs, dogs! Dawn, your bunny blanket was coming along so fast. You are a such a super, speedy knitter. Dawnelle, your sock is looking awesome. Go figure how a different stitch pattern can mix things up. Judi, that hat you finished up is gorgeous! What a lucky person the recipient will be!
All right, Loopies, since we've been small in number at our meetings over the last couple of weeks, I decided not to delay matters any longer. With the aid of my trusty young helper, who pulled names out of a one-of-a-kind Greatest-Show-On-Earth hat, we now have swap partners. And the results are. . .
Silly! I'm not going to publish all of that! I was going to, but then I decided that surprises are more fun! If you don't think so, well then, blab away, my dears. (This is not a reciprocal swap, by the way, so if you have Betty, it's not a sure thing that Betty has you!)
I will tell you who is participating, so here goes: Ingrid, DL, Dawn K, Kari, Wendy and me.
Due date: April 1, 2009
Yes, this is technically an April Fools Swap, but it is not a gag swap! You have to make a nice respectable dishcloth for your recipient. I will send each of you an email or rav message tomorrow (as I am editing this post for the last time at a night owl hour) to let you know who you are knitting for.
Here's to a fun swap! Any questions, you know where to find me!

You Thought I Forgot About This, Right? ;-)
Hello Loopy Ewes!
It's officially Dishcloth #2 Swap time! I'm here to lay the ground rules. All you have to decide is if you are in or aut!
1. Next Wednesday, we'll pick names out of a hat to find out who we will knit for. If you cannot attend next week's meeting, but would like to participate, just let me know. That can be arranged. :-)
2. Knit a dishcloth in any pattern that your little heart desires (of course, you might want to keep the recipient in mind too.)
3. This is strictly a dishcloth swap - no more, no less.
4. The swap date can be March 11th or March 25th. I'm leaving this open for input to see what date everyone would prefer.
How does it sound, ladies? Like some wicked Loopy fun or what? :-P
Have a good weekend!

A sheepish tale...
Once there was a girl, we'll call her Shawnelle. Shawnelle shared stories of the far away lands where she used to live in in a place called T-Town. T-Town was a unique land. In this land there were both sheep and cows. Now sometimes the sheep would play (in) the field and the cows didn't know, other times the cows would play (in) the field and the sheep didn't know. Shawnelle was the keeper of their secrets! One day Shawnelle met her old friend the cow, who talked about the big field that his sheep was playing in. Shawnelle knew that the tangled web her four legged friends were spinning would be needling her for years to come. In this tight knit community the truth would be hard to keep to herself. She knew one day that they would sock her hard with their news. She would be weaving in all the pieces to the story that she felt she could handle with out much knit picking! Shawnelle turned to her long time companion, the Shawnald and cast off all of her fears about her friends. She would turn on her heels in a heart beat not to let her friends slip one over on her!
There you go....my fairy tale recap of a story. Remember I've used poetic license to create this masterpiece! There will be no carry over on any other post. I'm bound to keep my word! Do not let my humor slip and pass you over. My purls of wisdom have been knit together so that you may climb the ladder of expertise that I have found!
take care,
Dawn K
